MATVEEVKA ORPHANAGE – GETTING CONNECTED!
A week ago orphanages had a Fall break and we were asked if we could think of a small one day program for a group of orphans from Matveevka. We said yes!….
Lat month we went to Matveevka orphanage and met with the Director, Larisa Konstantinovna. We told her that two of her last year graduates, Oksana and Sasha, are now living at our group homes in Zaporozhye. She was very happy to hear that and said that group homes is a great idea to help orphanage graduates to socialize.
A week ago kids had a Fall break and we were asked if we could think of a small one day program for a group of orphans from Matveevka. We agreed and took 12 orphans to a pottery workshop and to a rollerdrom.
Every body had a great fun! At the end of the day we took kids to New Hope Drop-in Center and treated with hamburgers. The kids were really thankful. We are going to visit Matveevka orphanage in about two weeks and bring them the pottery items kids made with their hands.
We also hope that more graduates from Matveevka orphanage can join our group homes next year.
Connecting with the kids at these two orphanages is very important for them to allow us to help them after they age out. When they know us they can choose to live in our group homes, come to the Drop-in center or get involved in our vocational training.
Feels like we need to be ready to offer another school break program for Matveevka, Novonikolaevka as well as Volnyansk and orphanage #3 during coming winter!
